I woke up yesterday with the phone ringing knowing who it would be.
''Hi Pete its John we only have 14 men for the game''. When he told me I felt pretty down. In any logical mind travelling with 14 players is almost a defeat before you start.
After a few phone calls we left with 14 players.
Chris Rankin kindly went on to the pitch to achieve our 15 thanks Chris. On the other wing Craig Anderson who played the whole game with a badly injured shoulder. Again thank you. This sort of commitment is way beyond the call of duty. After 30 minutes Chris went off.
The mixture in the team was certainly young and old Alex ''sword of justice'' Roberston, Grant ''up and under'' Linnen and John ''McClane''Murphy the old brigade. They Made me feel young. LOL.
A new player who trained on Thursday played on Saturday Neil Brammer. A quality flanker a sort of cross between Tug Russell and Scott Purdom. John and I felt guilty getting on the bus with a new player seeing the team in turmoil. He played his socks off and is a seriously good player. It puts a smile on my face seeing a player like this joining us.
The final score 22-11 to Strathspey 3 tries to 2
Two ladies joined us for the trip. A very civilised journey on the way up turned into the one of the best journeys back. Sky diving (photos to follow) boat races with bottles of port then the grand finale nude touch the window. Hopefully Diane and Gwen were not put off by this spectacle of male prowess.
A dumb and dumber moment. The phone rings at 10.35am ''Hi Pete have you not left the house yet'' Alex Roberston had obviously been forced to phone by John. I told him I was on my way down. I wasn't, I was frantically looking for my scrum cap. I ran down with out it.
Casting back to the Dumb and Dumber film if anybody remembers the two guys travelling to Aspen the one on the back of the ''hog'' freezing his bollocks off without any gloves they arrive in Aspen and Jim Carey says to Jeff Daniels you should have said ''you could have had my spare pair of gloves''.
After the game with my rather large head battered to pieces John says ''Pete I found your scrum cap at training on Tuesday here it is''. Thanks John.
Another thank you to Grant Stewart who drove up with Danny and David saving us playing with 12 players.
After the game I think we all felt very satisfied with our 80 minutes of hard work it was a seriously good effort.

Great great great day out on Sat, loved it all, it's actually one of the most enjoyable games I've played in for a long time & Strathspey were a good bunch of guys too. 22-12 btw Pete. They were very lucky to get all those points, especially as 2 of their 3 tries weren't tries & the final whistle penalty they got to deny us a losing bonus point should've been our penalty, hey ho, it's done now & I think the video ref wasn't able to make the game due to not being at the correct changing rooms at the correct time...like the rest of us. Anyway, big game against Stobie this week, can we all do our best & see if we can atleast try to get four players on coaching courses this weekend, its like having a hard-on in a chicks with dicks convention...I may have one but I'm not gonna use it! Finally, Eck Robertson....absolute legend, the photos are funnier than the real thing!!
Left with a bunch of guys on Saturday - returned with a rugby team!! Best team effort I have seen in a long time and so unlucky to lose. Well done to you all - my heroes! Danny & Bruce, great tries. Sky diving - well, what can I say? Naked sky diving, only one thing to say, Alex keep your trousers on. Looked like a plane coming in to land with a very small undercarriage!!!
You all played so well, particularly the new guys - Neil & Ewan. If we can build on the team spirit created on Saturday, then we will soon be contenders!
Yours in rugby,
Mummy
p.s. Funniest bus ride I have ever been on!!
