Thanks to all the players on Saturday who gave a 110%. Even in the warm up it put a smile on face. To see good numbers and a certain resolve. With such youth in the front five it can only bode well for the future something we have to work hard for.
Arbroath arrived and in my mind I knew they would be up for it. A local derby which I have experienced first hand can be a bit of a battle. It was seriously refreshing to see the game played in good spirit.
If anyone wasn't at the game you missed some great rugby. Its not good to single out individuals but the inter play between Grant Langlands and Chris Rankin was devastating for the opposition.
Owen Hughes picking up from the scrum must get really tiresome for backrow opposition. ''Here he comes again, right Jock its your turn to get run over''.
With Dave Christie playing his wily game at the back of scrum and his uncanny knack of being in places his slow pace doesn't deserve to be (its a Christie thing).
Bruce Langlands mixed the game up perfectly keeping the opposition thinking, not having a clue where the ball was going. Probably thanking you when you kicked gaining 50 metres rather than having to take on the animals in the centre.
Ever wonder how an opposition run into a maul or a ruck and they start swearing profusely. Its a condition called Rockyitus. It caused by a guy called Steven Esposito coming out with the ball.
Thanks to Tony Coffield for complementing one of the best backrow efforts I have seen. His mild manner certainly confuses, that behind the persona there is a hard man.
All these ball players have obviously to thank the front five for providing a great platform in the lineout scrum and open play. As already mentioned there is nothing stopping the front five (besides Dave Christison) creating a bit of history for the club. In fifty years they will be sitting on their shooting stools watching Carnoustie in Premier one . David Campbell will turn around to Euan Fraser and say '' I can't believe that Zinzan Christies great grandad was Peter''. Craig Dawson will turn around and say ''I can't can't believe it either a 6'8'' 19 stone stand off''. Steve Essex will also shake his head in disbelief and answer in his adopted Angus Doric accent ''Aye I know''.
One thing we do forget is expecting players to play out of position. Gav Dissel kindly played the second half at flank. He certainly didn't look out of place and his strength injected even more domination of rucks and mauls. At the end of the game we spoke and he said to me that all he wants is a game and that was the first time he has played at flank. Thanks Gav for the effort and again I need to make an effort and know peoples positions.
So the animals tear the heart out of the defence and all the wingers have to do is run 60 metres up the park. Sounds easy but obviously they have to pass a couple of blokes on the way. Nathan, Lee, Ally and Danny all had great games on the wings.
Nathans try on the wing I wish I had a video of the try just to show his Dad that Darwin was right. Evolution is alive and well there is no way Billy could have scored from there LOL.
Ally after Fife Southern it was a pleasure to see a true athlete on his preferred material even Jesus would have struggled last week.
Lee thanks for your efforts at full back and on the wing. The player in the club who sets fitness standards for everyone.
Danny showed his pace on Saturday. With the scary brothers (Chris and Grant) in the centre passing balls out to players like Danny the opposition really will struggle to deal with our gazelles.
As we continue through the season its our intention to be closer and work for each other. George Low made a welcome return he really did show how dynamic he could be. He made a couple of errors, but if I could have made one of his runs once in my lifetime I would have been delighted.
Hopefully this shows that we do have potential but there is a lot of work to be done. Its not only physical its psychological. To push yourself harder your brain needs to be willing. To get on with every player 100% 365 days a year is impossible. To look at me and not think I look like Mel Gibson is impossible. Joking apart we are all characters who have our own idiosyncrasies we have choices. See you at training.
I bet you thought I forgot about Gordon Smart. 49 years old turning up and supporting his club as a player thanks Gordon every second counts 1200 in total.
Even though Nathan is in the ascendancy in the Bowles household I would like to thank Billy Bowles for all his efforts as coach.
With my hand on heart it really does make me the happiest man in the village.

Superb performance yesterday, first half in particular. Have not witness us roll over a team like that before since I came back to rugby. Bring on Bannockburn!
Just to say excellant blog and what a commitment to writing it at the time you did but what worries me most is that someone replyed at the time they did on a sunday morning. as someone else used to say GOOD EFFORT LADS.
All that & no mention of rohypnol?!?! What happens to you/Mel Gibson when it comes to dressing up for hallo'ween, do you have to make yourself good looking...kidding ish kinda;-)Cant wait to unleash some carnage on Bannockburn, but most importantly...it's a bus trip, yeehar!
P.S. The time thing is 8 hours slow.
cool, i noticed when i sent my message and it had the time on it but cheers
Excellent performance on Saturday. Not often you see a team without an answer, either on the pitch or after the game.......must be the classy speeches!!
Cautionary note from Mummy...Saturday's performance was the best rugby I've seen in years from Carnoustie Rugby Club. Always knew that the potential was there but lying dormant some where. What Saturday proved to me was that this could quite possibly be the start of the Carnoustie come back. We played as a team on Saturday, not a group of rugby players turning up for a run around, we need to focus & build on that, commitment at training, on the pitch & involvement in the club as a whole. I wasn't around in the Carnoustie Murrayfield hey day, I'd love to be around for the next one!!! Please don't make it too long a wait.
Great team performance - Great Blog Flatfire!! We need to use this as our benchmark and raise the bar over our upcoming fixtures! Billy set the goal of 3rd spot this year and if we train hard, play hard we will achieve that. We should also be looking at turning the likes of Alloa over at home and make shanwell road a fortress once again!! Bring it On!!
Like the comments mummy!! The only thing is that a "come back" means that we went away somewhere. I my view, most people were still around, it's just the club was.......for want of a better word, STAGNANT! Seems to me that we're finding ways to make things happen instead of creating reasons why we can't....it's paying off both for the club and for the team. As bod who?? says "bring it on!"
